The Second Sun
Work in Progress – Final MA Project
This is a children’s book I’m currently developing as part of my final master’s project. It tells the story of a boy and his dog who set off on a adventure across the sea in search of a second sun. In the end, they discover the second sun was just a reflection in a window — a simple, quiet twist that plays with imagination and that is sometimes good to be bored. This project is a chance for me to explore narrative storytelling and childrens book Illustration.
Hey Diddle Diddle
This self-initiated project was part of my ongoing practice illustrating traditional poems and nursery rhymes. I chose Hey Diddle Diddle as an existing old english nursery rhyme, I used soft watercolour Illustrations to make a hardback book by hand. This was so I can understand the process of book-making and print.
Working as if on a commissioned picture book, I explored not just character design and layout, but also the physical process of bookmaking, hand-binding a hardback edition. The project became a way to develop my approach to storytelling, visual tone, and the experience of children’s books.
